Postgraduate Courses

M.Ed Guidance & Counselling

Admission Requirements

The following shall be eligible to seek admission and registration for the degree of Masters of Education in Guidance & Counselling:

  • A first degree in Guidance and Counselling with Second Class Lower and above i.e. B.Ed Guidance and Counseling 2.2.
  • A first degree with 2.2 and Postgraduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling from a recognized institution.
  • All candidates if necessary will be required to take an entrance examination to be conducted by the department.

Graduation Requirements

Duration: 2 years

To graduate with the M.Ed. Guidance and Counselling Degree, the candidate must take 24 credits in Guidance and Counselling, 9 credits in foundation courses and 6 credits in other related areas. Minimum of 39 credits and 9 thesis units making a total of 48 credits are required for graduation in addition to any other requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.

Admission Requirements

To be qualified for admission, the candidate must possess the following both academic and behavioral qualifications. A Masters Degree in Guidance and Counselling with a thesis component with good grades in course work of which 75% of the grades must be from B and above. Candidate with Masters in Guidance and Counseling with project written and having an average score of 65% and above in their course work may be considered. Such candidates will be subjected to intensive research seminar presentation. All candidates will have to be assessed through the administration of some Psychological tests, coupled with intensive background checks on them before they are admitted. Irrespective of their level in the programme, candidates found with behavioral disorder that will damage the counseling profession will be withdrawn. Any Ph.D. student whose score falls below 60% in the first semester course cannot proceed with Ph.D. study in counseling.

For a student to be awarded the doctorate degree in Guidance and Counselling he/she must

  1. Satisfy all the requirements of the School of Postgraduate Studies.
  2. Take and pass all the core area of specialization and elective courses prescribed.
  3. Write and successfully defend the dissertation both internally and externally.
